Working the Craft





My character is a rising teenage archaeologist.  I find that she wants to fly to Mars and dig out the entire Mariner Valley!  Yet I do not want to bog her down with too much detail.  At the same time, not enough detail will make her hollow.  Any hints on balance?

Second Draft



I finished my first draft a while ago.  Now, I work on the second draft and realized that if a major character is the archaeologist, I should know something about archaeology.  So I bought the book Archaeology for Dummies  Now I have a better idea of what her passions would be.   Yet I have difficulties in determining the amount of detail.  The character wants to excavate the Martian canyon, so I see some specifics are needed.

Decision made

I finally decided that my writing is not just an afterthought.  It is to be done.  I read Stephen King's work and found that I have a lot of work to do.  I have to research my character who loves archaeology.  Well, to work I go!
